On-device by design

Privacy Policy

Lookout audits your app permissions, blocks trackers locally, cleans up storage, and includes a small set of everyday tools — all processed on your device. This page explains, in plain terms, what that means for your data.

At a glance

Nothing leaves your phoneScanning, tracker blocking, and cleanup all happen locally. No files, app data, or network activity are uploaded anywhere.

No third partiesNo analytics, ads, or crash-reporting SDKs are bundled in this version.

No servers, no accountsThe app has no backend. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing stored in the cloud.

You stay in controlEvery permission — storage, media, or the local VPN used for Tracker Shield — can be revoked anytime in your system settings.

01Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how the Lookout application (previously published as Deep Clean) handles user data. Lookout is built to operate fully on-device across its Privacy, Clean, and Tools features. It does not require a constant internet connection to function, and no personal data is transmitted to the developer or any other party.

02What Lookout does

Lookout is organized around a few local, on-device tools:

Privacy

Permission Audit shows which apps on your device hold which permissions. Tracker Shield blocks known trackers using a local DNS filter — see below.

Clean

Scans your storage to find large files, duplicates, and junk, so you can review and delete them yourself.

Tools

A small utility set — Invoices, ZIP manager, Image converter, Documents, Notes, and Clipboard — for everyday file and note tasks.

Browse

A local file browser for viewing and managing what's already on your device.

03Data access

Depending on which features you use, the app may request access to photos, videos, files, and documents stored on your device. This access is used to:

  • Scan overall storage usage and find large or duplicate files (Clean)
  • Open, convert, or compress files you choose (Image converter, ZIP manager, Documents)
  • Save notes, invoices, and clipboard items you create (Tools)
  • List installed apps and their granted permissions (Permission Audit)

The app only reads the file metadata and content needed to perform the action you asked for — it does not read files unrelated to that feature, and it does not read the content of your other apps.

04Tracker Shield & local DNS filtering

Tracker Shield works by running a local, on-device VPN service that lets Lookout inspect outgoing DNS requests and block ones that match a known tracker or ad-domain list. This is a standard Android mechanism for on-device filtering — it does not route your traffic through any external server operated by us or anyone else.

In short: Tracker Shield sees which domains your device is trying to reach, compares them against a local blocklist, and decides to allow or block — all on your device. It does not log, store, or transmit your browsing activity anywhere.

You can review blocked activity at any time in the Privacy tab, and you can pause or turn off Tracker Shield in Settings, which also removes the local VPN connection.

05Data processing

All scanning, filtering, and analysis are performed locally, on your device's processor. No personal files, notes, invoices, or network activity are uploaded, transmitted, or stored on external servers, and the app does not maintain any cloud copy of your data.

06Data sharing

The app does not share your files, media, notes, or network activity with any third parties. It does not use backend servers, remote APIs, or cloud storage of any kind, so there is no channel through which your data could be shared even inadvertently. If you use a device share sheet to export something yourself (for example, sending an invoice PDF), that is your own action, not something the app does on your behalf.

07Third-party services

This version of the app does not integrate analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services. If a future release adds any third-party service, this policy will be updated first to disclose what is collected and why, before that update reaches you.

08Permissions

Lookout requests only the permissions needed for the features you use:

PermissionWhy it's needed
Storage / Files accessStorage scanning, ZIP manager, Documents, and other file-based tools
Photos & VideosDuplicate detection and the image converter
VPN service (local only)Powers Tracker Shield's local DNS filtering — no traffic is routed off-device
Usage access / installed-apps listPowers Permission Audit, so it can show which apps hold which permissions
NotificationsShows Tracker Shield activity and app alerts in Notification history

You can review or revoke any permission at any time through Settings → Apps → Lookout → Permissions. Revoking a permission will limit the related feature but won't affect anything else on your device.

09Data retention

Because Lookout does not collect or transmit personal data, there is no server-side retention period to disclose. Scan results, permission audit results, and Tracker Shield activity are generated on demand and kept only on your device; notes, invoices, and clipboard items you create are also stored locally until you delete them or uninstall the app.

10Your rights

Since Lookout does not collect, store, or process personal data on any server, there is no remote profile to access, correct, export, or delete — that data simply doesn't exist outside your device. You retain full control over your files, notes, and invoices at all times, and you may uninstall the app to remove all local app data.

If you have questions about how this applies to your rights under regulations such as the GDPR or CCPA, contact the developer using the details below.

11Security

Since all processing happens locally, your data remains under your device's own security controls (such as screen lock, disk encryption, and OS-level sandboxing) rather than a system managed by the developer. We recommend keeping your device's operating system up to date to benefit from the latest security protections.

12Children's privacy

Lookout is not intended for children under 13, and no personal data is knowingly collected from anyone, regardless of age. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that raises a concern, please contact us and we will address it promptly.

13Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated in future releases to reflect new features or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page along with a revised effective date. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
